Report of two missing divers
Brixham Coastguard requested the help of the Teignmouth lifeboat and its volunteer crew to help look for two divers who could not be located after a drift dive near to the Ore Stone rock. The Torbay ALB and IRB boats were also tasked to the same incident. The dive boat (out of Teignmouth) the 'Seaquest' had raised the alarm with the Coastguard.
It transpired that the two drift divers were attached to one marker buoy that was not obvious to 'Seaquest' due to the swell and glare from the sun. The divers were able to see 'Seaquest' and the searching lifeboats but were unable to contact them (also because of the glare from the sun and the high swell) - very quickly the Torbay ALB and the Teignmouth lifeboat each located a diver and returned them to the 'Seaquest' each in a cold state but unharmed.
The local NCI watchtower at Daddy Plain had the two divers in their sight and contributed via the radio to their fast recovery.

Inexperienced Jet Ski rider falls off his craft in poor weather and sea conditions
HM Coastguard responded to several reports from members of the public of a rider falling off his jet ski in poor sea and weather conditions by the Bar, by asking the Teignmouth lifeboat to launch and assist. The Teignmouth volunteer crew and lifeboat launched in the poor conditions and found the jet-ski and its rider re-united again, but about 500 yards off-shore in relative calm water. The lifeboat crew suggested to the jet-ski rider that he return to the safety of the harbour whilst the lifeboat stood-by.

Possible missing 23 year old girl
Following a request from the Police to HM Coastguard Brixham, the lifeboat and a volunteer crew of four launched to search the area between Sprey Point and The Point Teignmouth. The girl was reported as leaving a seaside bar and walking into the sea in a distressed state.
The information from the Police was apparently some 50mins after the incident, so it was decided to additionally launch the 2nd lifeboat - the Arancia lifeboat 'Malcolm Hawkesford 1' with two volunteer crew to search the river area leaving the ILB 'The Two Annes' to search the coastline.

At 22:25 the young lady was found by the Police on dry land, and the search was called off.

Fallen Cliff Climber
During the normal monthly exercise, HM Coastguard Brixham diverted the Teignmouth lifeboat (The Two Annes) and its volunteer crew to a rock face near Long Quarry where a female rock climber had slipped and although partly saved by her safety line, came to rest on on a protruding rock ledge about 10-12 feet above the sea. Above this lower overhang was a larger rock sticking out which blocked any direct descent by HM Coastguard Cliff Rescue Team and also by any direct vertical descent from a helicopter winchman.

On arrival and after some direction from the fallen climbers partner, the lifeboat managed to put ashore two crew who climbed up the rock face to assess the injured lady and make her comfortable.

Rescue helicopter 106 from Portland arrived on scene, but they were unable to lower their winchman because of the cliff face and poor terrain. The winchman was lowered into the lifeboat a little distance out to sea - the winchman was taken ashore, and the lifeboat returned to her stand-by station below the rock ledge.

By this time the local HM Coastguard Cliff Rescue Team had managed to descend the cliff to the casualty, and together with the helicopter winchman and lifeboat crew made the lady comfortable and then extracted her on a stretcher from the rocky ledge and transferred her to the lifeboat - and then to a waiting ambulance at Babbacombe.

Broken down fishing vessel and jet ski
Following a request from HM Coastguard Brixham, the Teignmouth lifeboat was launched to assist a fishing vessel and a jet-ski that had both broken down close to Sprey Point. When the lifeboat arrived at Sprey Point, the 6m fishing vessel had managed to get under way, and the jet-ski was under tow from a small yacht. The lifeboat took the jet-ski tow over from the yacht, and returned the vessel and the two adult riders to Shaldon beach.

Beach walkers trapped by landslide
Two ladies (one pregnant) and a dog were trapped on Ness Beach, Shaldon near the Smugglers Tunnel, after a landslip covered the steps to and from the beach.
The lifeboat was launched with the intention of recovering the casualties by sea, but lifeboat helm Humphrey Vince and crew decided that this was a dangerous exercise in itself, because the prevailing easterly wind was making the sea too rough to bring the lifeboat close to the beach, plus a return to Teignmouth across the Bar was too dangerous for any lifeboat passenger.
Recovery of the two ladies and the dog was completed by the Fire Brigade, under the watchful eye of the local Coastguard.

Young dog-walker stranded by the tide
The Teignmouth lifeboat was launched to a report of a young girl and her three dogs stranded on Spratt Sands by the incoming tide. The lifeboat approached the sands from the river side, and three crew waded ashore to collect the young girl and one dog. The other two dogs braved the water and swam to the shore where the local Coastguard collected them. The rescued girl was taken to the lifeboat station, where her father collected her, no worse for her ordeal.

Semi-submerged dinghy reported off Dawlish

HM Coastguard Brixham requested the lifeboat to investigate a report of a semi-submerged dinghy about 400m off Dawlish beach.
When the lifeboat arrived they found a well-battered 10ft dinghy just afloat - there were no obvious boat occupants nearby, and as there were no sides or stern to the dinghy, it is doubtful if it could have floated for much longer with anyone on board.

Search for missing fisherman

RNLI lifeboat crews from Torbay, Exmouth and Teignmouth launched in gale force winds and rain on Monday evening (28 January) to assist in a major search for a lone fisherman who was overdue returning to Brixham harbour.

The alarm was raised at around 7pm when the 19ft fishing vessel JCK with one person aboard hadn't returned to port as planned. It was last seen traveling past Thatcher Rock near Torquay at 6.25pm.

Torbay all-weather lifeboat Alec and Christina Dykes and inshore lifeboat John William Hirst, Exmouth all-weather lifeboat Margaret Jean and Teignmouth inshore lifeboat The Two Annes were all launched to assist in the search for the missing vessel, alongside two Royal Navy frigates, a tug, coastguard rescue teams and rescue helicopters from RNAS Culdrose and Portland Coastguard. The search was coordinated by Brixham Coastguard.

The teams searched for approximately five hours until Exmouth lifeboat located the fisherman shortly before midnight. He was recovered by Teignmouth RNLI lifeboat crew who transferred the fisherman to the Torbay lifeboat.

Search for Possible Missing Persons

A search was begun the previous evening with Police, HM Coastguard and the Torbay lifeboat looking in the vicinity of Oddicombe Beach. A car had been found abandoned in a local Oddicombe car park, and there was fear for the occupant's safety in the gale force conditions. The search was suspended overnight.

The following morning the Teignmouth lifeboat was launched to assist. An inshore search was carried out, including landing some crew to check the Long Quarry area, but nothing untoward was found, and the lifeboat returned to station after two hours at sea.
