  Escorted 6.5m angling boat
HM Coastguard Brixham requested the Teignmouth lifeboat to escort a broken down angling boat that was being assisted by the Torbay lifeboat about 17 miles east of Berry Head. When the Torbay lifeboat arrived with the casualty vessel the engine had been restarted, and she was making her own way back. Rather than divert the Torbay lifeboat to Teignmouth, the Teignmouth lifeboat 'The Two Annes' took over the escort duty, arriving back in Teignmouth at 18:15

HM Coastguard Brixham requested the launch of the Teignmouth lifeboat 'The Two Annes' to assist two males who had collided with each other whilst riding their personal watercraft off Teignmouth, close to the Lido.
The two casualties were being helped ashore as the lifeboat arrived - one of the casualties was suffering with possible spinal injuries and was made comfortable by the volunteer lifeboat crew, the other casualty appeared to be in a satisfactory and calm condition.
Rescue Helicopter 106 arrived to assist and the Winchman was put onto the lifeboat and taken ashore. It was decided that the injured male should be air-lifted to hospital as soon as possible - the casualty was transferred to the lifeboat and subsequently winched aboard the helicopter and taken to Torbay Hospital.

Five Persons in the water near Teignmouth Bar
HM Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat to the assistance of two persons in the water and close to the Bar, whose small boat had been swamped and was now aground. On arrival at the scene the two boat occupants had been picked up by a passing vessel and taken ashore.

The volunteer lifeboat crew then observed a small yellow speedboat that had also been swamped but on Pratt Sands. Three persons suffering from exposure and hypothermia were pulled from the water and taken to the lifeboat station for immediate medical attention - recovering in a short time from their ordeal with the help of lifeboat crew and paramedics.

The lifeboat was then re launched to recover the yellow speedboat and it was towed to Gales Hill. The first casualty that was abandoned on the Bar was taken in tow by another vessel and also towed to Gales Hill.

  Lifejacket saves angler
The volunteer crew of the Teignmouth lifeboat 'The Two Annes' were paged early this morning to go to the assistance of an angler in the water near Ringmore Towers. The angler and his wife had been attempting to board their 16ft angling boat from an 8ft punt to go fishing off Teignmouth, when he fell in the River Teign. The angler was wearing a protective suit and waders which quickly filled with water, a lifeboat crewman remarked "had it not been for the wearing of a life-jacket, he would sunk below the surface and we would have had a difficult time trying to locate and revive him".
The angler and his wife were safely taken ashore by the lifeboat crew to waiting Coastguard's.

  Broken-down speedboat close to Babbacombe
A report of a 15ft speedboat being blown close to the shore at Long Quarry, Babbacombe prompted HM Coastguard Brixham to request the launch of the RNLI Teignmouth lifeboat 'The Two Annes'.

Report of 2 people in difficulty off Langstone Rock during Dawlish Carnival Display
The Teignmouth lifeboat had been launched earlier for a rescue demonstration off Dawlish as part of the annual Dawlish Carnival, when HM Coastguard tasked the volunteer crew to a report of 2 people in a dinghy and in difficulties. The Atlantic 85 class lifeboat 'The Two Annes' diverted to Langstone Rock to investigate and although arriving on scene within two minutes the dinghy and passengers had already made their way safely ashore.

The lifeboat then returned to Dawlish for the search and rescue display that included a SAR helicopter from RNAS Culdrose and the recently introduced Exmouth RNLI Mersey class lifeboat. Almost immediately the Exmouth lifeboat had to respond to an inflatable dinghy being blown offshore near Orcombe and had to make a speedy exit. The Mersey class lifeboat now stationed at Exmouth replaces their previous Trent class boat which due to tidal conditions was sometimes unable to launch. The Mersey class lifeboat has a shallower draught and has already proved itself by saving lives when the previous Trent class would have been unable to respond.

Search for missing diver
The volunteer crews of four RNLI lifeboats from Torbay, Salcombe and Teignmouth spent 7 hours at sea searching for a 14-year-old diver. The alarm was raised early yesterday afternoon when a passing vessel was asked by the dive boat to issue a distress call on their behalf. A massive search involving RNLI lifeboats, helicopters, coastguard's, police divers, fishing boats and yachts, was conducted but nothing was found.

The dive vessel had been operating north of Berry Head when the young diver went missing. Coastguard's report that the father and son had been diving from a Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) and began to surface together. The 14 year old gave a signal to suggest he was all right, but when his father reached the surface he couldn't see his son. Once the alarm was raised, RNLI lifeboats from Torbay, Salcombe and Teignmouth were launched, along with a series of helicopters including one from RNAS Culdrose, one from RAF Chivenor and the police helicopter and coastguard units.

Police divers were also called to the scene and were transported by a fifth RNLI lifeboat, a Mersey class all weather lifeboat from the charity's relief fleet, that was on passage from Cornwall where it had been undergoing a refit.

More than 100 people were involved in this search at any one time, including more than 25 RNLI volunteers. Torbay RNLI Coxswain Mark Criddle controlled many of the assets as on-scene commander, and at one stage was in charge of the movements of 10 civilian vessels.

Because of the length of time spent searching, the lifeboat was refueled at Haldon Pier Torquay, where a relief crew was also waiting - the lifeboat returned to the search area until darkness fell and eventually returned to station at 21:20

  Missing swimmer recovered after search
HM Coastguard Brixham requested the lifeboat to launch immediately to look for a swimmer missing between the Pier and the Bar. The lifeboat with its volunteer crew started searching in strong winds and a rough sea in company with the Police helicopter for a man who had previously been swimming near the Pier.
After a search of around 10 minutes the Police helicopter located the missing swimmer about 350 yards east of the Pier and guided the lifeboat to his position.
The swimmer was swiftly taken onboard and the lifeboat returned at full speed to the station where first-aid was administered by the lifeboat crew and paramedics.
In the meantime the Coastguard helicopter landed on the beach, and after more efforts by the paramedics the casualty was transferred to hospital where he later died.

Capsized dinghy - person in the water
HM Coastguard Brixham tasked the Teignmouth volunteer RNLI lifeboat crew to assist an inexperienced dinghy sailor on the River Teign who was in difficulties. The sailor had launched his 10ft dinghy from Archbrook on the River Teign, and shortly after launching realised that the conditions in the middle of the river were a lot more severe wind (F5-6) than on the sheltered river edge.
Following the capsize of the dinghy, the person spent some time in the water before the incident was reported to the Coastguard and the lifeboat was launched - at much the same time as the 999 call was made, a group of passing kayakers saw the person in the water and helped him towards the shore as the lifeboat was arriving on scene. The lifeboat recovered the capsized dinghy and escorted the person to the waiting Coastguard team, who offered safety advice.

The crew were assembling at the lifeboat station in readiness to launch the Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat to go and help two persons who were in the water after their boat capsized in the River Teign. A passing speedboat managed to recover the two adults who had apparently been in the water for nearly 10 minutes (only one of whom was wearing a lifejacket).

The two rescued adults were taken by the speedboat to the lifeboat slip, where they were met by the crew, taken into the station and provided with warm clothes and drinks.

Search for missing person during lifeboat exercise
During a regular lifeboat exercise to locate three missing kayaks and their occupants, HM Coastguard Brixham tasked the Teignmouth RNLI lifeboat 'The Two Annes' to search for a missing person near Babbacombe. The lifeboat began its search whilst taking part in a practice search for the kayakers further up the coast.

Breaking off from the practice to attend a real service call meant leaving the kayakers (who were actually three volunteer helms from Teignmouth lifeboat station acting as lost and injured) to their own devices for a while!

The search for the missing person was called off after about 15 minutes when the lady was discovered safe and well, and away from the coast.

The lifeboat crew then resumed the search for the 'missing' kayakers who had returned to the 'ship-wrecked' locations. During this training exercise the lifeboat crew were able to practice their search and rescue techniques, the recovery of casualties into the lifeboat, first aid and medical evacuation procedures.

Angling boat broken-down off Teignmouth - 4 on board
Brixham Coastguard received a mobile phone call from a person on board a 4m open boat about 2 miles east of the Teignmouth lifeboat station. The vessels outboard engine had suffered a broken starter cord making the engine incapable of being re-started. The wind was Force 5, gusting to 25 knots, and from a SW direction that could have resulted in them being blown further out to sea.

The RNLI lifeboat 'The Two Annes' was launched with its volunteer crew and took the four anglers and their open boat in tow, and returned them to Polly Steps, Teignmouth.

The anglers were fortunate to have been able to establish contact with the Coastguard on their mobile phone as reception via cell phones deteriorates quickly at sea - the RNLI and the MCA strongly recommend that all vessels of whatever size always carry a VHF radio, flares, and alternative means of propulsion - and that all occupants always wear lifejacket's.

Two youths in difficulties on the River Teign
The Teignmouth lifeboat was launched to the assistance of two young men (both aged 14) stranded in a small boat in the River Teign. The lifeboat with its volunteer crew was on scene within two minutes and found the boys clinging to a yacht-mooring about 200 metre's east of Shaldon Bridge. The boys were taken onboard the Teignmouth Atlantic class lifeboat 'The Two Annes' and the dinghy taken in tow. The boys and the dinghy were landed at New Quay beach none the worse for their adventure, where they were met by the local Coastguard.

Lifeboat gives assistance with cliff rescue
HM Coastguard at Brixham requested the help of the Teignmouth lifeboat to assist with the evacuation of a person who had fallen down the cliff at Watcombe Head. The lifeboat anchored a short distance out at sea and two of the lifeboat crew swam to the shore to allow the lifeboat to safely veer in to the rocky foreshore with its engines raised. The Cliff Rescue team (HM Coastguard) retrieved the casualty from the cliff face, and he was then taken with a member of the cliff rescue team from the beach to a waiting ambulance at Babbacombe Pier.

Drifting dinghy
The Teignmouth lifeboat - 'The Two Annes' - was launched at the request of HM Coastguard to investigate a drifting dinghy approx 1/2 mile off Teignmouth. On arrival at the abandoned dinghy there was no indication of anyone having been on board recently and the dinghy was taken under tow. Unfortunately, and due to the dinghy's poor condition, the stress on the dinghy where the line was made fast resulted in the dinghy falling apart and sinking. The floating debris was recovered and taken to Teignmouth.

  Reported body in the water
HM Coastguard (Brixham)requested the launch of the lifeboat to recover a possible body off Ness Beach. With a strong F7 onshore wind plus a rough sea and a swell of 3.0+ metre's the lifeboat was launched, but within a few minutes was 'stood-down' - the body being washed ashore near Ness Beach where the Coastguard and Police made the recovery. During this aborted service, the lifeboat was experiencing problems with the port engine which resulted in the lifeboat being placed 'on restricted service' for 3 hours whilst the problem was rectified.

Unmanned windsurfer sailboat adrift in the River Teign
An unmanned but semi-rigged windsurfer sailboat was reported to Brixham Coastguard drifting near to Shaldon Bridge. Weather conditions were poor with rough water in the river and storm force winds of Force 8-9.
HM Coastguard fearful that there may have been someone trying to sail the sailboat, coordinated a search for a possible missing person, with the Coastguard searching the shore line, and Teignmouth RNLI lifeboat and volunteer crew searching the harbour, moorings and the river edge up to Coombe Cellars.
The windsurfer sailboat was meanwhile recovered near to Shaldon Bridge by the Teignmouth harbour launch.
After nearly an hour of searching, and with nothing untoward found, the search was called off and the lifeboat returned to station at 11:20am

Richard misses the boat but finds missing person
Brixham Coastguard requested the launch of the Teignmouth RNLI lifeboat 'The Two Annes' to search for a missing person in the early hours of Saturday morning. The lifeboat crewed by volunteers Humphrey Vince, Dave Matthews, Matt Moses and Pete Shillabeer began a search of the inshore waters towards Spray Point. The local Coastguard, Police and the Police helicopter also began searching the shoreline, and crew member Richard Boss who was at the station but arrived after the lifeboat had launched also went along to help with the shore search.

It was while Richard was on his way to the main search area that he came across the missing person on the beach and close to the sea wall and who appeared to be safe and comfortable. Richard alerted the Coastguard team and the search was stood-down. The lifeboat returned to station at 01:20
